Between the volcanic soils, high altitudes, and constant sea breezes, Mount Etna is a unique place to make wine. Nobody masters the conditions better than Girolamo Russo. Now run by Girolamo’s son, Giuseppe, the benchmark Sicilian winery makes this organic red primarily from old vines of nerello mascalese grown a couple thousand feet up the volcano’s slopes overlooking the Mediterranean. Earthy, complex, and full of energy, this showcases the ‘rustic elegance’ that makes Etna’s wines so special.
Tastes like: Cherry, rosemary, smoke, leather.
How to drink: Lightly chilled with BBQ ribs or rich red sauce pastas.
