Guímaro is making some of the most exciting red wines in Spain today. The traditionalist producer farms old vines of local grape varieties, which grow on dramatically steep vineyards in Ribeira Sacra in northwestern Spain. The high altitude and cool nights allow the grapes to retain a ton of freshness, yielding peppery, savory red wines.
This is made from a small plot of century-old vines of mencia. Despite the warm vintage and gripping tannins, Pedro Rodríguez keeps this elegant, floral, and spicy.
