Guímaro is making some of the most exciting red wines in Spain today. The traditionalist producer farms old vines of local grape varieties, which grow on dramatically steep vineyards in Ribeira Sacra in northwestern Spain. The high altitude and cool nights allow the grapes to retain a ton of freshness, yielding peppery, savory red wines.
This old-vine mencia bottling showcases why Ribeira Sacra is often described as a stylistic cross between Burgundy and the Northern Rhône. It’s the most earthy and savory of Guímaro’s single-vineyard wines.
