Vinho Verde gets a bad rap. Well, actually, that’s not right. Most of it isn’t very good. The wines of Joana Santiago are notable exceptions. On her family’s farm, surrounded by olive trees and nearly 100 varieties of fruits, she farms albarino (called alvarinho in Portugal) a stone’s throw from the Spanish border. It’s citrusy and refreshing, with depth and intensity rarely found in albarino.
Tastes like: Lemon zest, peach, sea salt, chamomile.
How to drink: Cold with oysters, fish tacos, or salty snacks.
