Wasenhaus, Weissburgunder 'Möhlin' 2023

$120

Unquestionably the hottest ticket in German wine, Wasenhaus was launched by Christoph Wolber and Alex Götze. The pair returned to Germany after stints in Burgundy that included Leflaive, Comte Armand, and Pierre Morey. As late as 2021, Alex still served as vineyard manager at Domaine de Montille in Volnay.

For the last few years, the duo has been applying those sensibilities two hours east of Burgundy in Baden. Focusing on chardonnay, pinot noir, and pinot blanc, they’ve helped the category of non-riesling German wine explode into the mainstream.

No producer, in Germany or otherwise, does weissburgunder (pinot blanc) like Wasenhaus. The Mohlin is aged 18 months in used wood and stainless steel. It's an elegant, salty, concentrated white wine that showcases their old-vine plots around Baden.
