Domaine Denis Mortet, Bourgogne Rouge 'Cuvée de Noble Souche' 2019

Denis Mortet was mentored by two Burgundy legends, Henri Jayer and Lalou Bize-Leroy. As such, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to hear that he was notoriously meticulous in the vineyard and winery, nor should it come as a shock to hear that his domaine rose to superstar status under his stewardship. Run by Denis’ son, Arnaud, since 2006, the estate continues to make a style of Red Burgundy that’s powerful, precise, and age-worthy.

The high altitude of the vineyard plot yields a fresh, vibrant, earthy pinot from the excellent yet frustratingly low-yielding 2019 vintage.
