Simon Bize, Savigny-lès-Beaune Rouge Premier Cru 2021

Simon Bize is arguably the most undervalued producer of Red Burgundy, full stop.

Think of similarly styled, long-lived wines, and names like Dujac or de Montille come to mind. In this price range, though, finding reds this structured and refined is far more difficult. The cool ‘21 vintage yielded a wine that’s enjoyable today, showcasing Bize’s classic combo of earthy spice and floral elegance.

Bize is synonymous with Savigny, and this bottling - vibrant, warm, earthy - is a perfect representation of the village’s reds.

Here's what you should know about it:
  • Bize is the name to know in Savigny-lès-Beaune, where they’ve been making wine for more than 140 years.
  • Bize is a proponent of whole-cluster fermentation, which gives their red wines firm structure and spicy, floral notes.
  • With yields down by 80% in 2021, Bize blended their Premier Crus - Fournaux, Talmettes, and Marconnets - to make this fresh, concentrated red wine.
